2026 has brought an interesting release to the table: a very loving bootleg mixing of Defender of the Future. There is no known label, and from some searching around in the community it seems they're US produced. Each pressing has the matrix scratched out of them, and the runout has a fun little easter egg across all four sides: "ECCO. WE ARE ALONE... / NOW WE ARE TOGETHER / WE ARE FOREVER IN YOUR DEBT... / DEFENDER OF THE FUTURE."
Despite being a bootleg it is quite professionally done with the double gatefold and dual LP, lacking a lot of messy noise in the pressing. The gatefold also features completely original art, with Ecco prominent alongside other creatures, and the centerfold has a mural piece with Ecco and the Guardian. There was a lot of love put into this as instead of just having ripped tracks from the Dreamcast or PS2 ports, each side has been engineered to use the ambient underwater noise of key areas between tracks to mix them, with them playing like a long seamless mix of the tracks on it. It is really quite neat and I would love to know who did the mixing as well as the artwork if its ever made public who produced this release.
