Releasing in Australia under Sega OziSoft, the Master System and Game Gear versions of Ecco share a reworked story and game mechanics that work on the 8-bit systems, with the Master System version boasting a higher resolution to the Game Gear port. With alternate coloured glyphs, a heavy emphasis on block puzzles to pass through them, new enemies, and new enemy placement in certain levels that didn't have them in the Mega Drive version it is a very unique and different experience to the original game across its 16 levels. It also has its own soundtrack which is quite lovely!
The silver OziSoft releases seemed to be akin to their Gold and Platinum releases on the Mega Drive, where it was a reprint of a (presumably) high selling title. These silver releases for the Master System were made closer to the end of its lifespan from OziSoft, with only five other titles being a part of the line-up outside of Ecco. Beyond the different injection plastic colour, everything else is identical to the original release.
